Movie Theatre & Conference Venue
The building has a long and rich film tradition, as the first film was shown here as early as 1889, which actually makes it the oldest cinema in the world – though the Rex, or Salamander as it was called back then, was actually a hotel.
More than 130 years later, after many renovations and a complete demolition, the Rex is the art house cinema in the heart of Wuppertal.
Great importance is attached to offering a sophisticated programme, along with European films. Occasionally, “mainstream” films are also shown.
In keeping with its tradition as a movie theatre, things like sticky floors, huge plastic buckets filled with sugary water and endless advertisements before the films have no place here. In return, we will serve you the best ice cream on the market, brought directly to your seat.
Thanks to the unique cooperation with the Postboutique Hotel Wuppertal, meetings and events for up to 200 people can be held here.
